Ravensthorpe
Town and Ranges
The Ravensthorpe Range is geologically complex and
represents some 3 billion year of the earth’s history.
It provides habitat for approximately 1 400 plant species
(31 of which occur nowhere else).
The Ravensthorpe visitors centre includes an original
restored cottage and a museum.
Our pride and joy is our new hospital and Supermarket that
other regional towns may envy, Ravensthorpe has so much to
offer.
For many, visiting Ravensthorpe it provides a chance to make
a day trip to Hyden’s Wave Rock.
This is the region where Jim Dunn found Gold in 1898 and
began the second of Western Australia’s gold rush eras.
Mining activities for many types of ore remain a big part of
the region’s development today. That history too, is waiting
for you to enjoy in Ravensthorpe.

Ravensthorpe and the Fitzgerald
Explore the Heritage Trails; see signs of the historic
Railway from Ravensthorpe to the beautiful beaches and
scenery. Inevitably they introduce visitors to the
magnificence of the Fitzgerald River National Park that is
awesome for many reasons.
With its amazing plant diversity and richness with more than
1 600 species, it alone has 30% of the flora of
South-Western Australia; (60 species don’t occur anywhere
else), an outback adventurer’s paradise.
There’s East Mt Barren and the surrounding landscape,
there’s also the most extraordinary array of Wildflowers
that are simply extraordinary with 700 varieties.
As if that were not enough the Fitzgerald Park is also home
to an amazing range of wild life which includes 31 species
not found elsewhere.
There are more startling features of this amazing and
untamed landscape than meets the eye. |
